As part of the University of Zakho’s strategic initiatives for the preparation of the new academic year (2025–2026), the High Committee for the Bologna Process and Program Development convened a meeting on Sunday, October 5, 2025, under the supervision of the university presidency.
The meeting was attended by the Assist. Prof. Dr Jasim Mohammed Abdo, Vice President for Scientific and Postgraduate Affairs, and Assist. Prof. Dr Ramadhan Jaafar Mustafa, Vice President for Student Affairs, along with members of the High Committee.
The session aimed to deliberate on mechanisms for enhancing and systematizing teaching methodologies within the framework of the European Bologna Process, as well as to ensure alignment between its implementation and the evolving needs of higher education in the Kurdistan Region. The discussion further emphasized strengthening the efficiency of the academic system and advancing educational programs in accordance with international standards.
At the outset, Dr. Jasim Mohammed Abdo underscored the importance of sustaining active communication among deans and specialized committees. He highlighted that evaluations play a vital role in identifying the obstacles faced by both students and instructors in the implementation of the Bologna System. He further stressed the necessity of addressing these challenges through practical and effective solutions.
Subsequently, Dr. Ramadhan Jaafar Mustafa discussed a number of academic and administrative issues presented by the committee members. He provided detailed responses regarding student affairs and offered several significant recommendations for improving academic programs and enhancing student competencies.
In a later part of the meeting, Dr. Kenan Ramadhan Ahmed, Head of the Quality Assurance Directorate, delivered a comprehensive presentation reviewing the activities of the previous academic year. He identified the major challenges and shortcomings encountered and presented a detailed plan for the advancement of the upcoming academic year. This plan particularly focuses on developing a dedicated guideline for instructors and students aimed at clarifying the objectives and benefits of the Bologna Process.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to the continuous implementation of developmental plans and to supporting initiatives that contribute to the creation of an academic environment compatible with European quality standards, thereby serving the University of Zakho’s mission to elevate the level of scientific and educational excellence.
Based on the committee’s recommendations, the organization of workshops and training courses for deans, faculty members, and students was proposed to enhance academic performance and promote the adoption of modern and effective teaching methods.
The committee also emphasized the importance of finalizing the academic records and data of both students and instructors, strengthening internal communication, and developing electronic academic programs to ensure a more efficient and productive academic workflow.
